One morning, Hanuman woke up feeling hungry and saw a bright red, glistening sphere floating above him. He called out to his mother, Anjana, who thought he had found a new fruit on a tree and told him he could have it. Hanuman then leapt up to grab the sun, flying at great speed. Anjana realized what was happening and called out to her husband, Kesari, who could only watch helplessly. In one version of the story, Indra, the king of gods, intervened and struck Hanuman with his thunderbolt in the mouth (hanu), which is how Hanuman got his name.
